looking good plants are good to have if you want to breed baby percs as they like to hide in them

Yes, I use it (Halimeda) to suck up the nitrate.

How long have you had halimeda in your tank? I really want to add some marine plants to my tank. I love the splash of color that they add. Yours is really nice. I keep running across conflicting opinions about macros in a display tank so I'm all kinds of confused as to what can be safely kept in a DT that won't overrun it and go sexual.

Hi, well....I chose Halimeda because it is, for the most part, non-intrusive. I say for the most part because it can spread somewhat but only from a piece floating away when you prune and it settles somewhere and roots. But, unlike most macros, it doesn't have a connecting root system. That is what makes other macro intrusive. The Halimeda simply roots straight down and fairly shallow into the substrate and can be pulled out real easy. Some will attach to rock and is a little more anchored but still can be pulled off. All and all it grows at a manageable rate and stays pretty much where you plant it. One caveat, along with sucking up Nitrate and other unwanted nutrients, it does consume Calc so you have to watch your level.

Do grazing fish (like tangs) eat Halimeda?

Well, I like the look of this in your tank and I think the fact that it doesn't have runners is a bonus. I've never seen this in any of the 3 LFS that I frequent. They all just have have cheato. I definitely want to try some of this.
