Just fragged my anthelia into 5 small frags. I was just wondering how long it normally would take for it to come back to normal because right now it is all withered and shrunk and wilted looking, which obviously I would be too if I just got fragged lol. The only other coral I've fragged is my frogspawn which opened back up to normal by morning, so I'm not too sure how it works for soft corals. How long should I wait for it to look back normal until I should start getting worried? I know a lot of you will probably say "you should hope it never comes back" or "get rid of the frags while you can" lol but personally I love the anthelia and it isn't a weed to me. I want it to take over most of the rocks between the other corals. it's a beautiful purple color and I love the waving it does lol.

It should only be a day or two. I have it growing on one wall of the aquarium, I scraped some off the other week and wrapped it around a rock, and it took a week before it started perking up again. Now it is taking off again on its new rock....

Well, that's good because that's just what it will do. It can and will also grow over and choke our your other corals so you may want to place some aggressive corals in the areas that you don't want the anthellia to grow. That may not stop it taking over your tank though.

I'm not too worried about it taking over my tank because I have no problems cutting it back when it gets too close. I'll have to do it often but I don't mind lol.

Like said, it will overrun other corals. Anthelia is like sea horses. Needs a species tank :p

I used to keep it on my HOB skimmer overflow cup - in this way it kept it from spreading. It has beautiful swaying motions in the current. It is very pretty stuff. Stuff that spreads exponentially.

It would very quickly envelope the cup and start going inside. So about once a month I would take the cup out and remove about 90% of the anthelia, leaving just a tiny amount. EVERY MONTH. Was ridiculous. Anyway, it would be open again within a day.

I did this until it started DROPPING baby anthelia. At that point, I kalk pasted the demon spawn and bleached the skimmer overflow cup - never again will I have that stuff.

My wife was mad that I always get rid of her favorite corals (anthelia, xenia, gsp) but, oh well. ;D

 Your experience (and final method of eradication) was similar to mine. You just can't control the stuff, no matter how much you try. Some people love it though so more power to them that do :D
