I'm just starting to venture into corals. I'm not sure what I need to have in my tank as far as trace elements and things like iodine and strontium. can I test for these things? I want to make sure that they have everything they need to flourish. Thanks.

you can test for iodine and strontium, but many don't. you need to test for Ca, alk, phosphate, and Mg, besides the other standard tests, nitrate, nitrite, and ammonia. I would buy a salt made for reefs ,such as reef crystals, what I use. Other companies have specific salts made for reefs. These salts contain more trace elements and Ca then reg. salt. Make sure nitrates are low and other parameters in check. Also make sure your lighting system is up to par. Good luck

Corals: What They Are and How They Live, by J. Charles Delbeek [IMG]

"...They are mysterious guests from an exotic world. Unlike anything else we keep in an aquarium, they represent the essence of the coral reefs that we try to duplicate in our living rooms. Our success at this effort depends greatly on how well we understand these unusual life forms..."

    Good Luck!
