Just moved everything about 10 miles down the road. The tank is back up and running and the fish are floating in bags. The water is still really cloudy from stirring up all of the sand. How soon can we put the livestock back into the tank? They have been in bags for about 1.5 hours and the tank has been back up and running for about 15 minutes. Thanks

How old was the tank before move? How big? How much substrate got stirred up? This could cause the tank to go through another cycle.

Yes I agree how old and did you use the old sand. When I moved a tank and used the old sand bad bad things happened. I broke the tank down 1 week later and replaced the sand to save the tank. Still fighting high nitrates but so far all is OK. Using the old sand never works out. Just my 2 cents.

Its a 37 gallon tank and it was moved in less than 2 hours with water and sand still in the tank. The substrate and live rock are 15 years old, the tank itself was upgraded from a 16 gallon about 6 months ago.

Well hopefully it will only be a small cycle and the livestock all pull through. It's not that old, so may not be too many harmful things in the sand being stirred up. Just keep an eye on things.

Do you have a spare tank or rubbermaid you can quarantine the fish in?

I've got a rubbermaid but no spare equipment, anything used would have to come out of the tank. Its pretty cloudy but its not any worse then when we have cleaned gha off the rocks.

+1 On the above, when I read the original post it sounded like a major amount of substrate got stirred up. But if you left sand and water in the tank during move, you should be good. I just did this myself a few months ago and everything was fine.

I actually took everything out of the tank, moved it,put it back together put the same water back in minus the water the fish were in replaced by ros(20% water change) and only had a day and a half cycle.Ammonia went up to .25 and then it was gone.
I also changed over to the bigger tank this way with no issues because all my stuff was very well established.
