Just one question

New to the whole saltwater thing and have a question:
My tank is 125 Gallon 6' long with 2 green spotted puffers, live rock in the very near future and a porcupine puffer to be added in about 3-5 months with a divider to seperate the two species.
The tank was slowly raised from freshwater to saltwater this is why I have no live rock yet. I will be slowly adding live rock over the next few months, it will not have any coral in the tank and will only have the 3 puffers.

I have test kits for Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate & Ph is there anything else I need to test for?

green spotted puffers? i thought they were fresh water fish? .... (confused)
My friend has 3 different types of puffers in one tanks that is no way near as big as yous. his are fine, i think you could put much more then just the 3 fish in your system

 

amcarrig, I know this is off the subject but I actually have two cats that look excatly like your picture. ;D I just think that is so funny.

phoenixhieghts , Green Spotted puffers are born in freshwater and eventually move into saltwater as they get older. They require 30 gallons min. per fish. Green spotted puffers can be kept in freshwater but as they get older their health will decline. In saltwater conditions they can live 10-15 years. This is what I am aiming for. I am only putting 3 fish in my tank because the fish I want are very aggressive and very messy eaters. I don't want to have any problems with my water so I am keeping my load semi-light (I actually call my load a very heavy load).
You might want to tell your friend there is a great forum all about puffers and their care. www.thepufferforum.com. This is where I learned all about my puffers. And there is a member on there called pufferpunk that wrote many articles about Green spotted puffer that you friend might find useful.

I would cure your Live Rock outside the Tank to avoid any Ammonia spike that could kill your fish.

I have a friend that has a Green spotted Puffer. they have had it for 9 years.
It went through the fresh water then to Salt and now it's in a full Reef tank

Sweet! It's nice to hear that. The LFS is curing my rock as I type. They have it in a holding bin (quarantine) for me. It has been there for about 3 weeks now. I am waiting on my protein skimmer before adding it. I will then be adding only a few pounds of rock at a time and I will also be testing my water daily to make sure I don't have any spikes sneak up on me.
BTW-The LFS owner's wife works with me. Can't get any discounts but I do get privelages.

 

you said from Fresh Water to Salt Water....Have you ever treated your FW fish with copper based meds?

 

Never treated my puffers for anything.
