How big was yours when you got it? Did it take long to adapt to tank foods?

Gotta throw in my 2 cents here. First of all, it's a stunning fish. I'd LOVE to have one, but my 90g is too small for one. Hopefully you will eventually upgrade the 75g?

Also, Randy Holmes-Farley on RC recommends dosing reef tanks with silicates to encourage sponge growth. If you are interested in encouraging sponges in your tank for your angel, I'd check out his article.

Don't worry. The one I'm getting is only 3 inches and I'm upgrading to a 180 this summer. John Coppolino, winner of RC's Tank of the Month award, had a fat, healthy Regal in his 65 gallon for over 3 years...I also made a thread about this issue on RC and everyone including John said a Regal would be OK in a 75 gallon reef and mine won't be in there for long.

That is a very nice fish for sure. Can I ask is it a reef safe fish. As I might like to get one some day.

    Cheers,

Cool. Sounds like you've done your homework.

I would check out the article on silicates on RC if you haven't already - it's a very informative read, and I have found silicate dosing to be very encouraging for my sponge growth (as has vodka dosing, BTW).

Good luck with the angel, and be sure to post lots of pics!

Hey AidanD, Most people who have Regal's keep them in a reef. They are know not to do well in sterile fish only tanks. In nature P. diacanthus feeds mostly on sponges not coral polyps. This doesn't mean they won't nip from time to time but usually they don't do any real damage.:)

I got her.:) She is currently picking at the live rock and eating my sponges/tunicates. I haven't tried to feed her yet. Pics later.
