so i just ordered the new lighting for the 30 gallon upgrade! i bought the odyssea 250 watt fixture. im looking into upgrading the bulb is anyone has any info on a good day light bulb. im going to be using my t5 fixture for actinics. does anyone have any experience with this fixture and a bulb upgrade, or even ballast upgrade?

lol thats a lot of watts per gallon. dont be surprised if you have a algae bloom for a little bit. it should only be diatoms though. i have a 150 watts Viper on my 29 gallon and its perfect.

I'm running an Odyssea 250 over my 30 gallon. The Odyssea 20k bulbs are a much better bulb than what you get stock. They are not as blue as most 20k's and IMO look like a 15k from most other companies. I have heard that Icecap 250 watt ballast are direct plug-n-play for Odyssea 250 watt HQI fixtures. I've also heard they will boost the light output of your fixture by a lot.

yea i was reading the same about the icecap ballast. i thought id get some use out of the stock fixture and just upgrade the bulb for now. see how it goes and looks for a little than eventually will do the upgrade to icecap. how do you like the fixture on the 30? have any pics?
