Birdlady, I just read the link you've posted. Now I'm not trying to be pessimistic or anything but I'm just wondering about the web site itself (AquaCraft). I don't know anything about them but they really seem to be biased toward ME2. I mean after comparing the other reviews they don't have one negative thing to say about ME2. Do you think they're legit with there findings? Or do they possibly have some interest in the sale of the product?

By the way. Have you seen it sold at ThatFishPlace?

    Hi there Mike!

I too, am suspect of outlandish claims on product... :D

Aquacraft is the manufacturer of the salt so, I'm sure they want to promote their product...but the S-15 report was done by independent labs...

Also, here is another article by Ron Shimek...if you scroll down to the Table...they do a bioassay comparison and on of Aquacraft's salt...BioSea Marinemix fared very well in that comparison as well....

Plus, I have read everything I could find, and could not find any real problems with the product reported, nor have any other manufacturers even tried to discredit the claims with Lab studies of their own..

So, my personal decision, was to try this brand. Everyone has to make up their own minds ;D

I have it all mixed, and claims seem to be accurate...Ph 8.2, Calcium, 450, no phophates, nitrates, nitrites...

I have not found it anywhere on the east coast. It is more popular out west. The owner, when I called to make the order, says it is really cost prohibitive to ship to dealers out here :(

But there is no shipping cost to order the salt on line :D

sorry, it would appear that I have rambled on a bit here.... ;D

My apologies BL, I just couldn't resist :)

    From the article

Quote " If the toxic water from some mixes is detoxified in aquaria after being added to the system, there are some profound implications for water changes. It would mean that with every water change, a mass of potentially toxic water is being added to the system"

Lemme just say....I find that article VERY suspect. For example:

"Unfortunately, I was unable to have all of the salts analyzed myself for this study, but some independently derived comparative data are available, particularly for the two salts with the lowest larval survival. These two salts were analyzed in detail for the 1999 article by Atkinson and Bingman. The constituents of the other salts were not independently analyzed, and I had to rely on data provided by the manufacturer of Crystal Sea Marinemix Bioassay Formula. For the Bio-Sea Marinemix, I used the data from one of the advertising brochures describing the salt. Fortunately, there is no a priori reason to doubt the veracity of either of these sources. "

Taking scientific analysis of salt 5 years ago, and assuming it is the same salt today, is faulty...

Using the labels of 2 salts (coincidentally the ones that appeared to perform more favorably, and the one he is trying to push Marinemix Bioassay) to compare to 5 year old data for the other salts is BS!

But, Whatever....it's just like anything else, liars figure, and figures lie....depends how you interpret it.

The one thing that was pertinent to me in this article was how well the aquacraft Biosea marinemix salt performed even tho he was trying to show how well the Marine mix Bioassay salt performed.... ;D

Yeah, and the quote you posted makes no sense to me.... [smiley=dizzy.gif] [smiley=drool.gif]

    BL,

As I have said many times before The dear Doctor is a marvellous Marine Biologist, but nothing else.

Find the article he wrote about why his DSB collapsed and you will see the reasoning behind all that crud.

Oh, wait, lemme guess....his toxic crappy salt was killing the DSBwith every water change so he decided to make his own salt???
    ;)
