    Hello Birdlady:

    Glad you got your salts.

About the "guy" in Reno... I know Craig from posts on varioius sites. I also had the pleasure of meeting him at a SEAbay meeting a few months ago... Thus, I know the "guy" in Reno.

Glad you like the way the product mixed. We add two power heads (Otto 3000's) to our mixing vat. Our solutions when mixed with RO water about 65F mix clear in about 4 minutes. This with a few grains of salts left at the bottom of the vat.

We install two heaters, continue to mix and by the time the temperature is 77F (2 hours) all salts are dissolved and the solution is optically clear and chemically stable. -- No residue and all ions consistently measure to the levels we are looking for.

As for never hearing about ME, sorry, it is a new item. Only 33 years old. It was first developed in the late 60's for heavy duty use in our importing facility. Later the formula was modified for use in the worlds first captive breeding program for tropical marine fish. (1971). For those in areas that we do not promote in, we sell via the net. (no spam or plug intended).

The cost for shipping 1000 cases of salts to the East Coast (we are in Calif), the cost is $3300. To ship the same amount to SE Asia is $2100. To ship the same amount to Europe is $2400. -- Thus shipping to some parts within the US is most costly.

Since most aquarist are cost oriented, they usually purchase what is readily available in their local shops, or found at low prices elsewhere.

For those that get the new CORAL magazine, please check issue #5. We list a few places we ship to.

As for our items and how they are made.... We do our best. I am a long time marine aquarist. I believe we produce the best items for their intended use. (Not a commercial plug, but definately a personal plug).

Re: Dr. Ron. One of his main concerns was the amount of metals in marine salts. There is not one marine salt that has levels of various metals that are equal to or lower than NSW.

Dr. Ron had concerns that levels of some metals might not allow delicate marine organisms to reproduce.

Since one of our brands was most successful with his bio-assay test it is not possible that the levels of some metals is of concern. This dealing with the very start of life, cell division.

As for metals building up with continual water changes, that is why we utilize bonding agents. These agents allow metals to be present.... to be used by various marine organisms, however they do not allow for buildup or toxic effects to harm captive animals.

I have kept the same tomato clown for 28 years, lionfish for 18 years, powder blue tang for 16 years, etc.

As for my comments to Birdlady about 3 Reef... I think this is one of the better sites. Matt Rogers has done a great job getting some of the better people to spend some of their valuable time, exchange information, while hosting a marine aquatic oriented site that is very friendly.

    Cheers. MDP

    Hi Mikeb!

    Thanks for the 'K'!
And there you have it, from the man himself at Aquacraft...MDP is the owner and all around nice guy ;)
Like I always see posted here, if you are going to change salt brands, there is a need to do it very slowly...ionic imbalance or something.....I am not sure what the recommendations are exactly.....maybe someone else here knows....??? anyone??

When changing brands of marine salts in a well established aquarium, we recommend several 5% water chagnes, 5-6-7- days apart.

Each brand of marine salt is a different formula, made with different grade ingredients.

Like everything else that is good with this hobby,
    go S L O W .
