I've handled the fixture a bunch while on and never really thought it felt that warm... You're right about no fans and the case isn't even vented... But I can't imagine that some thought didn't go into passive heating on this fixture being that there isn't anything to keep it cool.

    That's good to hear. :)

I had to ask as I've read reports of other low-profile fixtures (Marineland 'reef-capable' w/21 1w diodes in the 18" - 24" model) that claim they do get quite warm and have lost light intensity or even failed in only 12 - 18 months in some cases.

So I think I am going to turn my new tank into an anemone/clownfish tank, I'd like to keep a couple specimens of anemones so that being said I have decided to use the Kessil again in tandem with this light and have the orbit be a supplement to it which I think will work well... I get the added benefits of sunrise/sunset/moonlights with the orbit.... I've moved the orbit to the back of the tank and dropped the Kessil in the middle. With the orbit having 120 degree optics when the Kessil is off the spread still hits the front of the tank

Photos show front and side tank shots with both Kessil and orbit(at max intensity both channels) and with just the orbit on

I have a similar setup just wondering how the combination is working out? I have an orbit and would like to run a kessil alongside of it to ensure a happy nem.

I have been running the Kessil/orbit combo for about 2 months and has been pretty positive.

What is your light schedule? Also what flavor Kessil do you have, sky blue or ocean blue?

I'm excited to hear that you haven't had negative effects, I was worried about over lighting and potential algae blooms.

    Thanks for the quick reply!

kessil is sky blue and is on from 1130am -7:30 pm
current starts ramping up at 11 to peak at 1130am and starts ramping down at 730pm and moon lights hit at 8pm, ...only algae i have ran across is cyano but i think that has more to do from new brs pukani leaching phosphates out

Excellent! Thanks for the info and you had said you're running the orbit at full intensity?

With the two lights i'm into the lighting quite a bit but I feel like the two beats a MH any day especially in my small room it was getting hot.

The kessil has a look I really like and the orbit is pretty sleek as well.

yes the orbit is running at full intensity. If i had to do it over i would of gone with 1 controllable fixture rather then running 2 different fixtures for ease and simplicity... But i havent ran into any issues. I switched from mh to led on my 57g about a year ago and although i dont feel the led is "better" then mh the pros of leds outweigh the cons for me....heat being the biggest issue for me as well.

I REALLY LIKE THE KESSIL IT PUTS OFF A NICE LIGHT, AND IS PRETTY QUIET.

Here is the setup, I don't have the white orbit LEDs cranked up as it seems like over kill and really kills the actinic lighting.

Overall things are going well, kind of wish I went with an ocean blue kessil and cranked up the white on the orbit.

The photo is over saturated but the colors are fairly accurate.
