just starting a reef tank

    new to saltwater reef tank. just using this site to learn to care for corals and inverts. I have a 29 gal tank with 400w m/h light. I just went from fish only to reef last week

    Few who just keep fish seldom keep water parameters tight enough for corals to do well in . Then maybe you do ? But thats all I'd suggest is see where the Calcium and Carbonates and magnesium levels are setting at. Looks like you have the lighting issue under control may want to think about adding actinic if you don't already have some set up .

    That is mega lighting for a 29 gallon. Make sure you don't "cook" your critters. ;)
    Hope your fish have a good home while tank cycles with new rock.

    Yup! Omard is right! 400W / 29gal ~ 14W/gal! This is hardcore! You should try to be in the 4-6 W/gal range! There is an extensive thread about W/gal ratio in different tank setups! But 4-6 W/gal seems to be a typical choice!
