    ...if I got a giant clam or electric scallop in my 40 DT would that save me some trouble from getting a skimmer? I have no corals but have marine snow for dusters.

    What y'all think?

    No, not even close. First, they are not consuming all of the the same things a skimmer removes. Second, anything they consume is still in the tank, it hasn't been removed. Also, flame scallops won't live more than a few months in our systems, the correct types of food just are not readily available.

    If your dosing marine snow I would definitely add a skimmer. That stuff pollutes the heck out of tanks, actually we used to refer to it as "pollution in a bottle" LOL. I'm not sure what sized tank it is, but in a small tank, GAC and water changes could be sufficient, although, again with marine snow though, I think a skimmer is a good idea. You may be able to find better choices of food for the feather dusters too, a lot of the "marine snow" mixes aren't that good to begin with. Live rotifers or brine shrimp are probably much better and won't pollute the tank as much. Some phyto would probably be good.
