fresh tap all the way through. like i said you can ask some other people on here if you have any more questions, but i know for a fact that this process is tried and true. once the rock dries out pretty much everything leaves the rock including the bleach, so tap won't hurt a thing.

Sounds like you are doing all the right things.

IMHO soft corals are probably the most durable and forgiving corals to start out with, unless you are certain you have enough light and solid tank params.

Yes, steer clear of anemone for while.

The last soak in baking soda should be in RO/DI water. The last couple times I have done it I go ahead and set the rock in saltwater and let it start curing because I was not ready for it yet. I drain some of my tank water and add to it so that bacteria can start spreading.

Well thanks! I didn't kick my MH's on until about 10 or 11 weeks into a cycle so you have time.

 

okay so i got an idea. After ive dried the rock, i plan to smash the rock to rubble and use it as a bio filtration in place of the left over bio balls. Ive already taken out half of the factory bioballs and replaced Seachem matrix with carbon filter bags on top.

Ant objections to this id like to know before it happens. but wont be for a few weeks as it still needs to dry.

I understand that it may take a while for the bacteria to attatch it self to the rubble but will this throw my tank into a small cycle???

 

So, I am the new gal on this post, or any other for that matter! I have a question for everyone. But some background first.

I have two 24 gallon AquaPods. They have been running really well so as the parts began wearing out, instead of replacing them, we decided to buy a 90 gallon. WOW! It's been an adventure. At the same time, I bought my son an 8 gallon Bio Cube for his birthday. (Yes, I'm getting close to the point of my post!)

This happened a few times with our 24 gallons but not as badly as with the Bio Cube so I need advice. We have now had three of the four fish go over the back of the tank into the middle area. Two of them I was lucky enough to get to and put back in the tank before they died. The other one...a black saddleback clown, we weren;t so lucky with and now I have to replace.

Does anyone have any experience with this and maybe have a suggestion as to how I can cover up the back of the tank so no one gets in there are dies again? In my 24 gallons, I actually had an Oscellaris that I thought disappeared who lived back there for a couple of weeks. We fished him out only to have him die a day later.

Very frustrating so any help or advice would be appreciated.
