ok when i say lose i dont mean they died i mean i actually lost them in my tank. i had them rubberbanded to a rock and some how they got away. it was only two leathers i had done myself so no money loss (Phew) but still its kinda frustrating. i did today however find a hermit crab on the rock i had the frag attached to but the frag was already gone. if oyu think it was one of my tank mates in my sig please tell me. no other corals are harmed or missing, just the frags.

I think you can glue leathers. If you find them you may want to do that if it's a viable option.

i had the prob before... depending on what it is...

for a colt, i stuck a plastic sword "toothpick" through it to hold it on a rock until it held itself.

for mushrooms, i use the rubber band but put that whole thing in a glass bottle with wedding veil rubberbanded to top to a. keep out flow and b. keep out the crabs

after a week or two, they'd be connected on their own and can then glue the rock/frag wherever...

You can not glue a Leather. Toothpick's and rubberband's only.

    Hi Gexx

when you have secured your frag, to the frag plug or piece of rock, if you dont immediately glue or putty that rock or plug to your reef structure then the activity of snails, fish, hermits or even just water flow, can end up moving these things for you
often down behind the reef where they never get seen again

when I take a frag, I always place it in a plastic container inside the tank down at the bottom - a tupperware sandwhich box is normally my preference, the walls prevent water flow moving them about, there is nowhere to fall so they cant fall over, and the activity of fish cant bother them unduly either

NB even after frags are well set on the rock or plug you have set them on things can then still occur later if you do not secure this new colony adequately with super glue gel or putty IME - I have a YTB Damsel that resents any changes to his immediate territory, 3 days running I found a small frag of yellow polyps on the sand bed , 3 days I placed it back on the rocks, day 4 I saw this 1 inch fish dragging the 4 inch piece of coral skeleton that the polyps where on, to the edge of the ledge and then topple over face down.

a touch of reef putty done late in the evening while said fish was resting and by the time he was up in the morning, he was powerless to move it and has now accepted its presence there
