This is a new coral given to me for Valentin'es Day. When I called the LFS he said it was just "algae on the skeleton" as if all was good. I am worried about it. I apologize for the poor picture, still haven't gotten the hang of it. However, it is not to difficult to see the issue.

You might try setting a cleaner shrimp or hermit to work cleaning that up? Algae happens...:( +1 though for the experience

Thanks for the replies, actually my husband gave it to me and he said you could not see it when he picked it out. The LFS said I could bring it back.

That looks like rock poking through, but I can't really tell for sure from the picture. That sucks. BTW, a cleaner shrimp won't eat any algae.

Take it back ASAP. It probably won't live. I bought one with a slightly exposed skeleton and it eventually died from brown jelly disease.

Here is a recap of how mine died.

where the "algea" or whatever is..shouldnt be skeleton, but instead flesh. It looks like it is starving IMO and is dying. It should have more meat on it....I would take it back ASAP! there is a lot of white that could be skelaton or could be start of RTN depending on how fast it is occuring. Either way you dont want it in your tank. (hard to tell from picture what exactly is going on) Good Luck

algae will only grow on dead skeleton. It looks like it could be brown jelly disease. But either way, it looks very unhealthy. I would def. take it back.

Well, I did take it back and got store credit. Thanks to all for the replies. I did not want a dying coral.
