I just ordered a HOB refugium for my tank and so I went out and purchased a baseball size clump of chaeto. The problem is that the refugium isn't supposed to arrive until next Monday and I'm worried about how to keep my chaeto/ pods alive until then.

Right now, I have them in a small bucket with a heater, but no water movement. I also have it sitting right next to a window, since I don't have a light that will work.

Will this suffice until I get the refugium set up? Do I need water movement?

I would just throw it in the dt. Just keep it away from your overflow so it doesn't block it.

    Yea, I know...

The reason I did it was because the only place that had chaeto in stock is an hour from my house and I was heading up there to pick up some frags yesterday, so figured I would kill two birds with one stone.

Otherwise, I would have had to order it online and pay for expedited shipping in addition to the inflated prices. I paid $9 vs. $15 + expedited shipping.

The problem is that I was planning to just put it in my DT for the time being, but I didn't want all of the pods to go throughout my tank and get eaten by my mandarin (the reason I am getting the refugium).

Maybe not the best plan, but I'm looking for potential solutions now.

Any reason that it wouldn't work just keeping it in the bucket? My plan was to transfer new water from the tank into the bucket each day to continue to provide nutrients.

I'm just worried with the filter socks it might not get any light.
