Yeah, same here, except keeping at least a 55 gallon drum of fuel, makes sure you don't run out. At -40 below, we take no chances.;D

Snow doesn't bother me. It's the ice. A couple of years ago, it shut down the whole city because our local electric utility was trying to maximize profits and stopped trimming trees. My parents were without power for 5 days (but they had a fireplace). I was only out for 2 days. We even had a similar problem when we were hit with massive windstorms which blew down branches and knocked down power lines. This was in the middle of the summer. I was out of electricity for 9 days and the weather was in the mid-90's. That was miserable. St Louis has more "green space" than most other cities. Unfortunately, our utility runs electrical lines through them rather than above them (or under the ground) and doesn't keep the trees trimmed. Having the ice forecast followed by the high wind forecast doesn't make me happy.

We're preparing for another foot and a half of snow this week in central NJ. This, after 6 inches last week, two feet the week before, and a foot and a half the week before that.

Theres piles of snow 6+ feet tall on almost every street corner in my area. We're wondering where to put it all...

Our power lines are above ground too Curt and I'll be damned if I've ever seen anybody around here trimming trees. My neighbors on both sides have their yards full of old, half dead trees. We took all of the ones close to the house down and only have 2 more in the back of the yard to take down. They're all dead...chewed from the inside out by carpenter ants! But oh no, you can't cut down them trees. They LOVE them widowmakers! If we get a lot of ice from this storm, I dread to think of what's going to hit my house from they neighbors' yards.
