You don't have to post here for me to read what you have to say about keeping a Mandarin. Your opinion has been the loudest to me. Your feelings have been the strongest. It's very discouraging :(

If it isn't broke, why fix it? Unless you mean the *other* definition?

My hang on refugium will mostly be for pod generation, any nitrate that it removes will just be a bonus. I can't wait to get a mandarin, they are the coolest.

I agree..... while I appreciate everyone on the forums, and the help they provide, some are a little harsh sometimes. Seems like NO ONE should EVER buy a Tang or a Mandarin according to some people. Just because they didnt have success, doesnt mean someone else cant. I think youre doing a fine job with this Mandarin Nana...... prove the people that say it cant be done wrong.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Yes your absolutely right.

It's always better to encourage new hobbyist to buy and introduce fish to tanks that do not provide what would be better suited for the fish than to advocate for the fish.

Wonderful Nana's fish is doing great, not wonderful when people start promoting mandarins for nanos to 17 year old newer hobbyist.

I thought we would all be on the same side of this issue, whats best for the fish and the hobby, guess not.

This is exactly what Im talking about. That know it all attitude. Whos promoting Mandarins for nanos to 17 year old new hobbyists?

If a 17 year old new hobbyist is inquiring about getting a mandarin to put in a nano....... theres 2 ways you can handle it if you dont think its a good idea. You could be nice about it, and say you dont recommend it, but if youre going to do it, realize that its takes alot of patience, do some research to see if its the right fish for you, could cost alot of money to feed it, and theres a good chance it wont make it, and leave the decision to them.

OR you can handle it like a few ive seen on the site, and say You shouldnt get that fish, it will die, you will never be able to keep the pod population up, and if you care anything about fish you wont get it.

I dont have a problem with people trying to steer people clear from making mistakes or getting into something they cant handle. But you dont know me, and you dont KNOW what I can and cant handle, along with others. A suggestion is one thing, being rude and telling people it cant be done is another.

Nanareefer...sorry to hijack your thread with nonsense........back on topic.

Hijack away darlin :) Personally I don't think your words are nonsense. This hobby wasn't built by those advocating for the fish. If it was...there would be NO saltwater keeping period.

Well.... Ive pretty much decided that a Mandarin will be my next fish for my 55. Ive been looking online today and cant seem to find any ORA Green Mandarins. I prefer those over the spotted. As soon as i locate one, im going to give it a go. Tank is fully stocked with pods just in case it doesnt go after prepared foods. It will look great alongside my Hippo and Yellow Tangs in my 55. :)
