im trying to use my kent marine aqua dose as an auto top off for my 55 gal. There is a DIY ATO that ive been reading on the site of my local fish club....

it says to take a air tight bottle, run a 1/2'' tubing out of the bottom, and seal it up...

and the bottom of the 1/2'' tubing, poke a small hole about 2'' from the bottom...

now...it says to insert the tube into your tank, and anytime the water level drops below the hole you have made, then freshwater will come out of the bottle until it reaches the hole...and seals it back off?

ive been experimenting with this but can get it to work. could it be because the sides of the kent marine bottle calaspe in when water is exiting? any ideas?

Sounds like it is a sound idea, but when the hole is under the water the water from the bottle will mix with the water in the tank so it won't work if you're trying to use additives in your ATO. I would think the bottle has to be strong enough to withstand the suction pressure or it will just collapse.
