What do you guys think about this product? I have a friend to gave me a bottle but I don't currently dose anything I can't test and measure. Also, along the same lines how about Iodide?

I replace these currently with water changes. I have a 55 gallon in which I swap out a 5 gallon bucket every two weeks.

    Thoughts?

My thoughts are, do not dose or worry about either Iodine or Strontium.

    1. Your tank looks healthy, and yours does.
    2. If you are doing routine water changes with a decent salt that should be good enough IMO.

It just does not need to be that complicated, unless you have an issue with your tank.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. There is still just a variable that I think I am over looking. I had some noticeable growth for maybe the first time a few months back and it stopped. Everything looks fine just not growing. I thought this could be a key factor.

Strontium is such a trace element that I wouldn't worry about it. The quantity is about 6-7 mg/L, IIRC, while magnesium is about 1300-1400. The test is extremely complex, as well, which makes it impractical to dose unless there is some organism (that I'm not aware of) that absolutely requires it.

Iodine is the kind of thing that can crash your tank if overdosed. It's easy to overdose it, too. The test kit is unreliable, as there's many forms of iodine (iodine, iodide, etc.), not all of which are tested by a kit, and are not proportional to any other reading where you can surmise the total amount from any one value.

So, no, I wouldn't dose either.

I used to use these products and I saw no difference. Much better to make sure the big 3 are in line ,Calcium, alk, Magnesium.
