The colt coral falls under the leather finger species.

Exactly, although several species of branching soft coral and finger leathers tend to sold under the generic name "Colt Coral".

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Colt Coral is just a catch all for branching, tan to cream in color soft corals IMO. I have bought Sinularia that were called Colt at the LFS, Capnella that were labled Colt. If it brownish, easy to care for and grows like a weed they call in Colt, they may be wrong but that is the trend I have seen over the years both here in AZ and in Ca.

When I google both names I seem to get very similar results, so +1 Corailline, your answers are always helpful.

I've read these things can take over and grow like a weed, however I just added Devils Hand, Kenya Tree, GSP, and a neon green/yellow mushroom coral. They are my first additions to the tank and so even if they grow out of control, I'd more than happily trim them back ... it'd be nice to have some serious GSP growth on the portion of rock I've placed them on (side of big chunk on side glass of tank :] )
