Has anyone used or have one of the kessil aquarium led lights? i REALLY love the compact design, it would be absolutely perfect over a nano and the pricing seems really affordable to me. Anyone have any insight? i found a youtube video of someone that has 4 over a 90gal corals seem fine but just wondering ifa nyone here has some personal experience, especially since i randomly saw one comment (left by a mr. anonymous :p) saying that these things can be firehazards? but i can't seem to find any more info on that except for that one comment, but its given me pause .... :/

I believe they're pretty new, I haven't seen them for sale anywhere yet but they do seem quite interesting, could you link to the video of the 90 gallon?

each unit is 36w. And at a price of about 450 dollars each that is not very good. considering you can get an aquatic illumination sol unit for 80 bucks more but it is 75 w. twice as powerful.
Secondly these lights are designed for a deep tank, the spotlights would be weird in a short tank i believe. And the company has been specializing in hydroponic led lights for years which NEVER took off, hps and mh are still better for growing so I am assuming they just changed the color of the bulb and resell it to aquariasts

I'm not sure where you're getting your info, but I've been looking into these recently and that's not accurate. They MSRP at $260 and if you look at other Kessil products, they should be able to be had for around $200. They have an integrated lens at a pretty wide angle. Reefbuilders had them on aquapod 24g and coverage was pretty good. They also have mix of UV emmitters built in as well. These look like awesome little lights, especially for the price.

Kessil A150W LED Aquarium Light SKY BLUE, OCEAN BLUE and DEEP OCEAN BLUE

I got it from here, one of the very few sites that i found which sells it. the only site i found that talks about a 260 dollar price is reef builders. Show me a site that sells it for that much. Secondly the kessil website says very limited information including the fact they boast nothing about par values, which if they were a serious company would have a light meter and be proud to show their superior results, secondly on their website. The comapnies says nothing about using uv so where are you getting this from?
Lastly they use a single 30w led that is very milited info about, as far as i am concerned isn't tested. If your going to make accusations that i am wrong please provide your facts and not your opinion. I provided you with a site that is moving them at the price i mentioned and only found a reference to your price on reef builders.

Lastly "if you look at other Kessil products, they should be able to be had for around $200"
are you refering to their grow lights that have been aroubnd for years as opposed to these lights which were released in march?

Most of my information is based off Reefbuildes since they are the only ones that have really done any type of evaluation of the light. Since it is so new, no one is really selling them yet. The site you linked has them for $340, which I agree is too much. That's the only place I've seen them offered, so as far as pricing is concerned, it's anyone's guess at this point, but I've found RB to be reliable source so far. Compared to the other products which they've been producing, they seem to go for about $200. Not exactly a far stretch to assume the models adapted for reef use will be far off. So you don't think it's not good light becuase they haven't posted PAR values? That seems a little narrow minded to me. The RB article goes into the UV lights and there's also several threads on NR about these as well. You seemed to be very offended by my post, which was not my intention. Info is limited on these, so neither of us really know how the light will perform, your "facts" on this light seem to greatly differ from the other info I have read.

My sources have indicated that they will retail for approx $260. From what I have been told they were very impressed with these. They were most impressed with the spread and intensity out of such a small package.

i guess the answer the OP is suppose to get out of this is "no, we have no experience with these lights at all and can't recomend them untill more testing and info is offered from the manufacturer. they look pretty tho."

    Hugs!

I'm sure if I wanted to get my hands on one I could get one for the weekend. I really have no desire as I would never consider using one on my tank. My problem is I have nothing to compare it to. The company is still looking for dealers but I'm sure that will be ironed out really soon. Only then will you have users to share their experiences.

For now I will trust in my friend's hands on opinion!
