I second that. maybe not iodine so much but mag in the right levels is the key to good solid color on it and stable alk is important also!

    water Parameters is :
    PH : 8.1
    SG : 1.025
    Ca : 650
    Alk : 18 dkh
    Magnesium : 1350 ppm
    Phosphate : 0
    NH3 + NO2 + NO3 : 0
Iodine : 0.1 ppm total of all forms
    Strontium : 10 ppm
    Boron : 10 ppm
and i agree with you that mag is very important .

I don't agree that these are "key". Light, maybe. Calcium and Iodine, not so much. They play their part, sure, but not key. Stability of Mg and alk are key IMO.

I got a mixed reef, my flow varies depending on where you are in the tank. Despite that, I still got the solid purple wall. Flow plays a part, but strong flow isn't a key aspect. I've seen softie tanks (low flow) with purple walls too.

What is the purpose of this thread? Doesn't seem you're asking anything.

I have a hard time believing 1350 Mg can support 650 Ca... And 18 dkH is ridiculously high.

Are these numbers accurate? What are you testing with?

test kits isn't a very good answer really. as far as i know, that's a fresh water test strip kit...

wikipedia, i must say, is renowned for their perfectly accurate information. anything on wikipedia must be taken as gospel! ok, not really. In reality, wikipedia is chock full of misinformation. Anything there should be read with suspicion until shown somewhere more reputable.

I think you did your tests wrong. 1350 Mg wouldn't support Ca of 650 IME. It'll barely support 500. Particularly not at an SG of 1.025. You can only have as much Ca as there is Mg for it to bind to. It would snow out of solution b4 it got that high with the Mg that low.

18 dkH, if accurate (which I doubt) is a tank ready to crash IMO.

Anyway, I don't see that this thread is serving any purpose other than giving out misinformation, so I don't think I'm going to keep replying to it.

Good luck with whatever this thread is trying to accomplish (post count is my random guess).

I believe that elevated magnesium levels help encourage coraline algae growth. In addition to magnesium, it is also important to make sure that the calcium and alkalinity are all in check within the system. I use Tropic Marin Bio Magnesium to reach the Mg level that I want.

I have to disagree with the Blueish lighting. I never had more Coraline than when I was running 6500K bulbs. and for those who remember (it wasn't that long ago) that was the standard highest K bulbs out there
