    Hello kfishlips here
New here, have A question ? I have A s/w fish only tank getting A costom 135 for reef. I have been reading everthing I can about reef tanks would like your opinion on somthing I read, This guy says with the salt mixtures we get have more than enough elements that it is un nessary to buy anything other than Calcium and Bicarbonates ?? He also went on to say that the fish stores sell this to make there money and it could lead to problems with over amounts says he uses only Mrs Wages pickling lime for calcium and arm & hammer backing soda I could send his page for all to read any truth to this guy

Glad to see you found way here!

Great place to be if you have questions about setting up new tank...we all love to help "participate" in ;).

Am firm believer that most common salt mixes will provide all the elements you need to keep water in condition.

Regular water changes is key as elements will deplete over time.

Some provide higher Ca content then others. Since I keep primarily soft corals this is not that big an issue for me, and I seem to get by fine using I.O. Reef Crystals , and only supplement once in a great while, if overall tank content depletes a bit.

    Otherwise supplement nothing...

Others here will say different. But each tank had different needs, and we each approach this subject with what we have found works best for us and are comfortable with.

Good luck...keep us posted on progress.

you get all of your suppliments from the salt mix. The only thing I dose on either of my tanks is well dow flake and arm and hammer.=) I have a heavy sps load in one tank and a heavy lps load on the other so these two suppliments are pretty important for me.
