Why do you think that? Just curious.

I use the API test kit for dKH.

I run at 12-13. I normally add the first 8 drops and shake and then shake between drops for drops 8-12. I cross checked with shaking between each and every drop...

    no difference.

if you know your dKH ballpark, then I don't think it's really all that important to shake between each and every drop - especially the first 70-80% of them...

    just my two cents.

I think you've got a bad test there. If possible, test someone else's water or borrow a test kit. If it were me, I'd take my water to LFS and have them cross check it. Then you'll know for sure.

+1 on Inwalls suggestion, they are all sponsors so go check out the sponsors page on here!

and about your issue, are you measuring dKh or Kh? and are u positive you have read the directions fully? I have found to always use the cap while shaking and never your finger... I did this once and it gave me a very high number so I had to redo my tests using the cap and they came out right then

You need to multiply the drop by 0.56 to get the dKH reading. Actually the instructions say multiply drops by 10 to get PPM the multiply by .056 to get dKH. 30 drops put you at 17 dKH.

Directions state to multiply by 10 to get ppm then multiply by .056 to get dKH.

would an expired test kit knock the numbers way out of whack also? could that be the problem?
