    Hey Guys,

I have 5kg of live rock in my 55g tank with 20kg of dry rock. Is there a way to kick start the spread of coraline algae?

Any help would be great :)

I got a piece of live rock with the coraline algae on it. Got a razor blade or something to scrape it off while in the tank. Parameters play a role also to help it out.

Purple up works very well also, but, if your lighting is good and your parameters are correct it should start up on it's own.

Coraline algae I found grows the best with two products 2 part Bionic and also Purple up like posted above. Along with good parameters.

Am not sure how long your tak has been plugged in and running but may take some time for it to grow. Again like posted above Lighting will deff aid in the growth process.

    BEst of Luck..

I actually did both things, I scraped off my coraline algae while I held it in front of my powerhead and I dosed purple up

I would not waste money on purple up. Get a seed piece (scrape), keep calc, alk and mag up. Keep phosphate down and wait. It can take time.

I had a hard time getting any to grow in my 29 gallon when I had the marineland light but, when I switched to the ecoxotic par-38's that I have on now it started to grow like crazy. I think the proper amount of light really plays a role on the tank. All my parm's were stable and I didn't have much in the tank, 1 fish and some bumble-bee snails along with some soft coral. Now, I am growing SPS and loads of coraline everywhere! I didn't realize how weak that light was until I switched it!

Agree with most here except the Purple Up.You never want to dose a product when you have no idea what exactly it contains.Doing so is a dangerous pratice and one I don't advise. You always want to be able to test for what you dose to ensure no overdosing is occuring.Scraping some Coraline, good parameters, and time.Go slow let it grow!!8)

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I will go with getting a few peices of live rock and scraping some coraline off. I would have to some more reading about purple up or something like that, but if its been used pretty sucessfully I might read up on it more.

    :)

Many people don't like purple up, I use it with no negative side effects but I will tell you if you use it DON'T FOLLOW THE BOTTLE. They tell you to dose every day or something like that, I found it to be to much
