Why would you want to kill live rock?

Seems to defeat the purpose of it... Aren't there plenty of places that sell cured rock for $3.50 lb for less and base rock for even cheaper...

I'm still a newbie, so I see these posts and go... huh? I'm just curious as to the benefits of this.

Does any life make it through bleaching, boiling, drying out for days?

you would do it to get rig of pest hitch hikers, or if a piece of rock has been over run with apaisia (spelling?) that hasnt spread to other rocks yet.

Some people will kill left over rock to save it for later. If you didn't kill it youd need to keep it alive in a tank with an ammonia source. Too much work and it's not work it. They may also have an aptasia or pest problem in the rock.

Nothing makes it if done right, which is the goal.
