killer overflow

    in the past 5 days ive lost one clown fish and one fire fish due to my over flow sucking them down and killing them in my filtersock. they were very small since they were ordered online, but how to i prevent this from happining? would window screen work? if so how do i afix it to the overflow? please help im tired of comin home to dead baby fish in my overflow :/

    Can we get a pic of the overflow? Is it possible the fish were dead when they went down the overflow? Are they new additions? Just seems odd that you would get more than one sucked down.

    Maybe get some plastic canvas and make a screen for it with that. Window screen is metal and could cause you more problems. At least with the plastic canvas it would be safe. You can get it at just about any craft store for a few cents and just cut to size with scissors. I personally use it for all sorts of stuff and I even made an in tank refugium with it. Hope this helps!

    They can get sucked down. I had a smaller clown go down my drain. I dont have a overflow box my tank is just drilled. What you could do would be to cut the eggcrate out to fit the top of your overflow box then use some pond foam. Once it dries shave it down so its flush with the eggcrate. just sit it on top of the drain and poof no more lost fish.
