Peppermint shrimp don't always work either. Also, them and for that matter, other natural predator of aptaisia, will sometimes eat corals and things you don't want them to eat. Other than berghia nudibranch, none of these natural predators really knows the difference between an aptaisia and a xenia, for example. So, it's always risky IMO, as once they learn to eat living things in a tank, rather than food and detritus, they have learned to eat living things in the tank... Often it isn't an issue though, but aptaisia-X or Joes Juice is never an issue. The key is to turn off flow, as per the instructions, but also, don't assume they are dead the first time. Go back to the same area a few days latter, even if you don't see them and repeat the application. It does work, although, I do find Joes Juice works better. Also, you can use kalkwasser and make a paste, or use boiling water, or lemon juice, or a mix of some. IMO, any of these methods are preferable to adding live creatures with the purpose of killing other living creatures.

I've found joes juice works great if they are small, but found using it on larger ones can cause it to release spores when feed, then you have more to deal with.I prefer the boiling water in a syringe if they're not to close to any corals as it kills instantly and if it releases any spores they are typically cooked as well.simple, effective and free.

IME white vinegar and also boiling water DO NOT work. Yes they may disappear and shrivel and look very miserable, and even appear to "die off" or "melt away" but they would always just come back within a month or two.

Now keep in mind I'm not talking about Aiptasia I'm more less referring to Brown Button Polyps that sometimes hitch hike on LR or in Paly/Zoanthis frags

I ended up mixing Kalkwasser into a thick paste and blasted them right in the mouth. So far it's been 2 months and they have not returned.

Whatever you do, just don't pluck them out! It will release spores and then you will have a mess of them.

I've used aipstasia-x with mixed success. It seems to work right away with the smaller ones, but the large ones end up taking 2-3 doses to kill them fully. Otherwise, they just make a return and are as big as ever.

I also have a peppermint shrimp, but have found them to be much better at preventing an aipstasia outbreak before it happens, rather than getting an infestation under control.

i have several peppermint shrimp in my 54 gal and i love to watch them "dance" and eat stuff off the bottom. They have not bothered any zoas or shrooms, but my coral banded did pinch a frogspawn (while retrieving food) and the frogspawn got a nasty infection and died.:(
