Bryopsis, Bryopsis, Bryopsis is driving me crazy. Would the bryopsis die if I ran only 2 G-Mann Actinic+ 's for a couple weeks?? Would that also kill my my clams and brains or is the actinic enough to support them for just a little while? And will the actinic also support the bryopsis?? Thanks

If I remember correctly, Tangster had the same problem and he said that by raising your Mag to like 1600ppm also helped. PM him to get the rest of the receipe.

is it a reef tank? If it isnt, i personally would just shut the lights off completely and do your best to reduce nitrates and phosphates at the same time.

If it is a reef then......good luck! Reducing photo period may help the battle, but i dont think its the answer. I hear raising magnesium level can help. Amcarrig should be able to give you pome pointers as i know she has battled a bryopsis out break.

The Mag trick only works for certain bryopsis species, not all of them will react to it. If I could do it with lights alone it would be so easy, as long as my corals can make it under G-Man Actinic+ and the bryopsis can't.

I don't think it will work very well, I fought it many different ways but found nothing to work. The Mg level will only affect certain types of bryopsis and it's very efficient at obtaining nutrients from the water. I got rid of it by covering it with epoxy and letting that sit on it for 2 months, or for small patches, taking the rock out and applying bleach to the affected area with a q-tip. IMO, you will need your lights off for a fairly long period of time to kill it off and your corals will die before it does.
