I just watched The Cove which is an incredibly moving documentary about Japan's whaling practices. It was something that I have heard of but never really looked into. I had seen dolphins at attractions like SeaWorld and thought that they were incredible animals, this movie made me think of them as something more than that thoough. What is going on in Japan is disgusting, and most of their citizens don't even know what their country has been doing. I just thought I should share what I thought about this movie and hopefully get some of the 3reef community to be active in this movement.

    The trailer...

My whole family just bought shirts after watching this movie.

Its a cultural thing, kind of like us eating cows here, while the hindus see it as murder to important animals, we think they are delicious. Although, its kind of frustrating because they are doing some damage to the populations without thinking of the reprecussions.

I understand the cultural differences, but like stated in the movie, most Japanese citizens didn't know about the huge amount of dolphins being killed. When they found out they were against it just like how we are. Im not a fan of eating alot of meat, but I doubt that our country will ever really turn that habit around.

Hmm, can't really speak on behalf of the Japanese people. They haven't stopped whaling and still strip the seas of fish with little to no regulation. I won't be believing what a movie said when it had a guided purpose to seek a specific response. It isn't unbiased journalism. And this is coming from a staunch liberal.

It honestly is a cultural thing. Most Americans would be horrified at how slaughterhouses worked if they actually saw it. They know the gist of it, but to see it with one's own eyes is something else. It's much easier to accept the norms when you don't see the dirty work behind them. Seeing it will only stop a few people from eating meat. It's an accepted evil in our societies.
