i get home and i see a live lobster (7 pounder HUGE!!!) in my new tank that is still in the process of cycling. my wife's friend stopped by and dropped off a surprise for dinner so without thinking or asking she threw it in the new tank. the damsels are all alive in the sump still but should i be concerned about my water since he has been in there for about 2hours. i mean i don't know if he could have purged something out into the water. the lobster appears to be fine, very clean looking, and he looks like he is very happy in there. just wanted to bounce this off a few of you guys to see what you think.

    thanks

The only thing it could have purged was waste imo and that will only help the cycle.

you know i almost freaked out but i remembered 3 weeks ago i put a dead shrimp in there and left it too rot, and she thought that was crazy of me until i explained why. so after thinking about it i guess she figured a live one couldn't be too bad.

so dinner is in the tank? That is a different situation, i dont see how it could really hurt anything. What size tank? the 55 gallon?

    LOL!!!

I have a funny lobster story too. A buddy of mine was moving so we were taking down his 225. Taking out the rock, we ran across a HUGE reef lobster. He had purchased one 5 years previously but he thought it died. It didn't die. It just hid well.

I don't think it will cause any problems. Do explain to the wife the problems int can cause in a reef tank once yours is going.
