Will the Whirlpool RO units sold at Lowes or the GE RO Units sold at Home Depot work for saltwater aquarium water changes?

They are rated at around 10 gallon a day. But do they remove phosphates and nitrates? :p

it should remove most of them, RO should get the water around 90% cleaner. if you ever get serious or have extra money it would be good to get a ro/di unit with the deionization unit after the ro to clean up the remander

You can just get on Air Water & Ice and order an extra DI cartage to go after your unit and it will be fine.

yes it will work but only if you have a lfs that services them. i bought a 10gpd ge drinking water ro unit from lowes not knowing any bettter and my lfs changed it to 75gpd rodi unit for 75$. i has a pre di hose that goes to a faucet on my sink and the after di outlet runs right to my sump for easy evaporation refill. my friend at my lfs said it was the nicest setup he has seen but i have almost 400$ into it. stupid me lol

I have heard that the rejection rates on home units aren't as high as in the units we use on aquariums but I am not positive on that, may be something to look into. I'm pretty sure that was on here somewhere, I'll see if I can find the thread.
