    Hello all, I just wanted to start a thread documenting my experience using kitty litter. I came upon such a crazy idea awhile back on here (3reef) with people telling stories of them using it but with no further results.

    Today, I put a 2" layer of "special Kitty" kitty litter from wal-mart. Then 3" of aragonite on top. I will be growing mangroves and some cheato, (which I already had growing) with any luck I will see some improvements in mangrove or macro algae growth. I wanted to do this because it is an extremely cheap alternative to using the expensive muds. I know the kitty litter is known to contain zeolites, which could be bad because they may suck up certain things, may they be bad or good. Anyways ill post up some pics later.

    I'm happy to see someone braver than me. I've heard about this, but am way too scared to try it. Let us know how it goes.

    Alrighty, well had some time today since my gd math test is over to take some pictures. Okay, I took some of this [IMG] put 2 inches and then covered it with 2 inches of aragonite. Here's what my tank looked like , [IMG]

    Here are some shots of it in the fuge, [IMG]

    So after I added the kitty litter, this was the subsequent result;

    As you can clearly see from the picture above, the tank caught fire and exploded due to the kitty litter. Basicly the result from using litter was bad to say the best, the litter started small fires on my fish and corals and the small fires subsequently progressed to huge fires that reached the combustion point and produced small nuclear explosions which burned down my house and took out my neighboorhood with a 25 kiloton blast.
