Yes Larry those I think have a metal stem there are some gates that are all plastic You need some ? I may have several around the shop or my son in Richmond will have plenty if needed ? The stem is either Brass or S.S on that type .. Its not acid/corrosive grade S.S either ): so t will not do for saltwater

I need one single 1", but I can get them ok, thanks. I wanted a slimmer one like this knife-type for my return. The way my return is fashioned, I'd have to remake the whole thing to fit a PVC gate valve, whereas I could have simpy removed an inch or so of pipe and fit that knife-type in, without all the trouble. But I guess thems the breaks.

You can check to see if the stem are acid or corrosive proof . To be sure ? and Brass is totally out stems have to be Titanium or 316 S.S or practice . In a tight spot I have trimmed pipe and the hub of the fitting or valve to get them in the spot :)
