I've mentioned this to a few others but I wanted to post it on here as well.

I finally got the tank itself nuked and I'm in the process of cleaning it. Well as I was draining it last night it was really making some weird noises. Almost like a house settling.

Has anyone had experience with this? Would you call this normal with the weight of a tank that large? Could it be possible that the water I spilled under the stand has weakened it? Wouldn't think so since it's happened before but who knows...

I hate to add building a stand to the list of stuff that needs done to get this thing back in good order...

LOL yes you should have heard this one here when we drained it and loaded it in 2 hrs flat in Richmond then I hauled it up here that night.. It creaked and popped moaned and groaned like a old house.. Might want to take some stringers and and stiffen it up a tad thats what I did with this old Tank and stand.. I built the stand 20 yrs ago and the tank is about 15 yrs old ..

Think I'm going to do that. Just for peace of mind...

Well I just ordered my new Typhoon III RO/DI from Air Water and Ice. I hope it comes with the TDS meter like it mentioned. That is just one more piece of mind.

About to log on to Marine Depot and really spend some loot! Buying VHO's to replace my PC's, PC's will go over the fuge to relpace the clip on grow light. Getting another 250 MH to replace the one to "borrowed" for the QT tank, also need a pH probe, some bulkhead fittings, and other stuff...

Man I can't wait to see this thing back in action.

Well I just got done at Marine Depot. Nice to know I've just spent my next few months budget in one day! ;D

Good news is it should equal out while this tank is cycling for the next few months...

I think my fish are getting tired of the QT tank. I swear they swim up to the glass towards the 180 and just look kinda like "Hey, we used to live in that big mansion over there but it got forclosed so now we're renting..." :end:

    Matt,
I'm sure the mail has ran but I haven't been home from work yet. Meant to ask my wife to keep an eye out...

I really hope it's here today or tomorrow so I can get the scary hard part over with...

I was meaning to ask you what you drilled. I was reading up on your tank...

    Coming along nicely... ;D

Basically I started with a standard 55 gallon, drilled two holes in the back panel, just off the bottom and close to center. One is for the drain, the other was going to be for returns but I'm kind of rethinking that now so it may end up just getting capped off who knows? Those two holes went fine, a little chipping when it broke through but Tangster says that's normal. I also drilled a hole in a ten gallon that I'm using for a sump, that one did crack the panel but hopefully silicone will cure any issues there since it will be hidden anyhow.

Couple suggestions that Tangster gave me that seemed to work well: 1. Go very slow, no need to rush. 2. Use plenty of oil.

And one suggestion of my own: 1. A heavy shot of whiskey calms the nerves a bit before drilling.
