MMM, pork butt. You know it's funny, it doesn't look like it would taste that good still attached to the pig... ;D

Hey Amcarrig, I've got a good one for you to ponder. My tank has pretty much stablized but I've noticed both my ORP and pH are a little low.

My ORP doesn't fluctuate much but it stays around 280 - 290. I know it should be up around 350 - 420.

My pH is staying around 8.0 but sometimes will bump up to 8.18 or so but it never hits 8.2.

I fired up the calcium reactor hoping to level these things out but it hasn't been much help.

Any thoughts from you or Roger?

What salt did you use ? The P.H at this point is fine hell its fine for any point and the ORP will settle in when the bacteria get fully established .. and Lights and photosyntheses starts to happen . If you want to bump the Ph up and where is its at is fine IMO for where you are in the cycle but just toss in about 1/2 cup of Boraxo laundry booster the Borate is low if anything .
What are the Ca and DKH and Mag readings ? Oh are you using a meter or a test kit to get the 8.0 to 8.1 ? If you also take a 1/2 teaspoon of that same boraxo and add it to 16 ozs of R/O D.I water you will get a P.h of 9.119 every time to test the meter against and to calibrate it.

Oh A butt or a what ever from beef to pork to deer ist all good when cooked properley ! I did a Deer Loin a few yrs ago in Pa and I had several no game meat eaters with me :) Untill they ate some Baam deer gone ):

I used a mix of instant ocean and reef crystals to set the tank up. I'm using a meter to keep track of pH and ORP, new probes that have been calibrated within the last month or so...
    The levels are ca = 300, mg = 1950, dkh/alk = 1400.

I'll be waiting for some of that deer meat. We ran out early spring but I only got one last year and it was a doe. :(
