Anyone using the Kold-Steril system? My LFS uses the larger commercial unit to make pre-mixed salt water for sale, and for their own tanks, so I am thinking it must be ok, but is it BETTER than RO/DI, about the same, or worse? I'm speaking in terms of water quality, not volume or waste.

All I've found is the manufacturers marketing info, which leads me to think Kold-Sterile is better than a machine that turn water into gasoline.

Anyone have the real dirt on them? Operating costs? I know they cost more up front, anyone know what they cost per gallon to produce? Life span?

I've seen the pros, any cons?

    Thanks!

It's basically for people that live in places where they have more expensive water or need a lot of water quickly. RO systems waste a lot of water, Kold-Steril doesn't.

Everything I've read says that it will not purify water like RO/DI will, it will not remove everything so depending on what your water is like in your area it may or may not work for you.
I would not use it personally, I like starting with as clean a slate as possible and AFAIK that means RO/DI.

If you're concerned about the time it takes for an RO unit to produce a significant amount of water then get a big reservoir and put an auto shutoff kit on the unit so you can let it run overnight and be relatively certain that you won't get a flood.

I wouldn't trade quality for quantity in this case, water quality is one of the most important things in keeping a reef so I don't like to skimp on it.

They are not a replacement for a RO/DI. They do little for TDS and less for other things. They have their place but not for the reef hobby in almost all instances. There are lots of articles by people like Randy Holmes Farley and others if you do a quick search.
