I have been running my Koralia Smartwave for approximately 4 months now with absolutely zero issue with the PH's running in reverse or making any sort of clicking noises. I am not positive but I think the main issue is the level at which the PH is angled. The other day I was experimenting with different PH angles and moved one PH from almost level to pointing downward. It started clicking. When I moved it back to its original level it stopped.I then tried pointing it upwards and it did not click. I think what is happening is gravity is pulling the impeller out of the PH body slightly when pointed down. This may or may not be the issue but I have been very happy with the Smartwave.

Seems perfectly possible, good call, I don't have a wave maker, but would love one, I have shyd away because of the "clicking" and ceasing stories on here.

BTW, why do they sometimes change into "suck"when they were blowing ?

Since I started running the Reef Angel, I decided to try some of the Evo's on wavemaker mode a couple of months ago. I found out that two of them were missing the rubber post in the housing, and fixed them. Since then, three of them have had the post has broken away from the front cover, leaving a hole. The clicking and humming sounds, as well as running in reverse has gotten worse. All of the powerheads have always been pointed towards the surface. I just saw a thread on R2R last night discussing the same subject. It seems fairly common for this to happen, and Hydor will send out new covers if you request them. I thought these issues were supposed to be resolved with the Evo's. I have a total of 14 Koralia powerheads running. It's starting to turn into a maintenance issue and getting me a little irritated. :p

Imo the impellers on these are just improperly pitched. When you turn them on they torque themselves out of the housing and into the rubber stop. Thats the click and eventually the plastic fatigues and the impeller strikes off the reverse stop.

I am running 2 750's that I purchased about 3 years ago. I never ran them on a wavemaker. I replaced both covers recently but only because the tab that held it in place broke on 1.The bumpers were fine and the covers not cracked. When I ordered a repalcement cover I just asked for a few and they sent me 12. I am currently running 2 1050's and 2 1400's that I purchased cheap from Big Al's along with the Smartwave. In 4 months none have ever run in reverse or clicked. I am running 3 of them level with 1 slightly pointed up. Jerry just gave me a link with a mod AZ Rat did to fix his and the problem apparently is because the grate on the front cover is so thin there is a little flex in it causing the bumper to move closer to the impeller.I will PM him and maybe get him to add his mod to this thread so you all can see how simple and apparently effective it is.

Hydor Koralis Evolutions should not run in reverse period.
If they do either thay are an early model that had a bushing that would slip out of place on the ahaft or more likely the front grille is cracked and the rubber bump stop has fallen out.
Either way, Hydor covers this for a full two years with their guarantee. I have never seen anyone denied new replacement parts even if they are older than that.

Here is a thread I started over 2.5 years ago when I replaced my Sicce Voyagers with Evolutions you might find useful. I also show how I modified the front covers with a small piece of black plastic that cures the problem forever.
