I am going to be replacing my K2 and K3 in my 55 gallon with the new evolutions. I was thinking of doing two of the 1050's for my mostly SPS reef. I might be upgrading to a 90 however in the not so distant future so should I just get two 1400's? Would this be too much in my 55 gallon now? Its all SPS except one lobo and one colony of zoanthids. Its not the best picture but here is a somewhat recent picture of my 55g. (sorry for the Iphone pic)

I have one koralia 2 rated at 600 gph, and just ordered an evo rated at 750. i think that should be more than enough. but as for a 90 gal im not sure

I have a 55g reef & upgraded to 2 Evo 750's from 2 K2's. I have mainly LPS and Softies in my tank and most are out of the direct flow of the pumps, they are fairly strong. If anything is in their direct path, it gets blown around like a rag doll & pretty annoyed.

I have them on opposite corners and they create a nice flow pattern. Hard to say if 2 1050's would be too much for your tank (I know SPS demand higher flow), maybe one 750 and 1050 might work better, but again, I only have exp with the 750's & LPS/Softies.

best of luck with whatever you choose. You might want to look into Vortech's also that you can dial back. However I know the Evo's are much cheaper and on sale at BigAls so I understand why you'd get them, nice pumps for the price def.

I would get them now and get it out of the way. If you want to control the flow I would put a controller on them. There is a standard for flow but in the end its your preference.

yeah I was going to wait till i upgraded but with such a good deal from big al's thats why I am going to get them tonight. I guess I could get the two 1050's and then when I upgrade maybe add another 1050. would that be a good idea do y'all think?

i just ordered 3x1400 for my 75 gal soon to be SPS reef on christmas. :) The more the better for SPS! I have asked the same thing and heard that there is no such thing as too much flow for SPS. SPS don't want any particles to lay on there branches. The water brings nutrients to the coral and you need a high flow for the nutrients to get to the coral.
