I unplugged my Koralia 3 the other day while feeding the tank and when I plugged it back in it won't work. I've tried it several times and it won't work. I pulled it out of the water and plugged it in and it works. When I put it back into the water it stops working. Any ideas? I think something is shorting out. Anyway to fix it or should I just buy a new one?

yeah, either try cleaning it or even tapping on it with something hard, out of the water. Don't bang on it, just tap it. sounds like it may have froze up due to being out of the water, something dried up on it. I thought the pump that came with my tank was burned up and I, like a dummy, assumed it worked and well...it didn't I tapped on it a few times and it fired right up!

I had a similar problem with an old Rio 2100. Took it apart. Put it back together. Worked.

+1 on cleaning. I have to clean mine about once a month or so or they stop, but will work out of water, so it sounds like the exact same problem. Just brush 'em off under a running sink.

    Its a very simple issue.

If it doesn't restart, simply use your finger to move the impeller through the front opening and it will restart for you.

Due to the design, the impeller spins out of the shaft slightly when you turn the pump off. A small design flaw, but easily solved.

I'm going to buy some vinegar and soak it for a little while and see how that works.

I needed another anyways so I accidentally bought a Koralia 3. I thought I had a 3 for some reason, but I really have a 1. Plug it in and there is a hurricane now in my aquarium:lol: It settled down and it actually looks pretty good. A lot more flow in the tank and I think everything is happy.

I've had the same problem with my Koralia and my older Rio's (2500 & 2100) whenever they start acting up I take them apart, clean them well, then run in a vinegar water solution (1 part vinegar 3 parts water) for about 15 mins, then in pure water for 5mins or so.
