I was just wondering if other Koralia owners use the included adapter/cover and circle screen on their pumps. I had initially thought the adapter & smaller screen was meant to keep fish out of the outflow are safe from the impeller. I'm currently using the adapter on both my pumps but it does hinder the flow aree quite a bit, thinking of removing it.

Is it okay to just remove them, or should I worry about fish swimming into the impeller. My Flame Angel does swim against the pump current at times to pick at the algea on the screen.

Let me know if ya'll use them or not & if you've had problems if you don't. BTW I don't have any Anenomes.

    Thanks!

Nay. I used mine at first too. But it does restrict the flow area. I have a K1 and K2 in my 55 and have never had any issues with fish getting into them. My hawk fish actually perches on my K2 most of the day.

I have run mine both ways... I have a Koralia 4 and I can't imagine a fish swimming that hard against the current as to get into the impeller.

Currently, I have both the director and screen off. It seems like with it off, the flow is more scattered and random... kind of a good thing. But it actually seems to me that there is more flow when it is on, maybe just that the flow is more focused, but it sure it less turbulent, and is a much smoother flow.

I think that with the director on, the flow goes farther out, whereas with it off, it dissipates much more quickly.

I have debated whether to put it back on my pump or leave it off. I could see benefits to both. However, I'm interested in other folks experience as well.

Maybe someone could email Koralia and get them to weigh in on the topic...

good input guys, and I agree the restrictor does concentrate the flow more which can be good or bad. If I take mine off hopefully my Flame won't get blended, doubtful but he's crazy!

look forward to more input & I actually just ordered a set of the new Koralia Evo pumps, looking forward to seeing what those puppies can do!

I use them mainly for peace of mind. Its not the fish you need to worry about as much as snails IMO.

i too use mine for peace of mind at this point. i had a snail break the impeller on a K1. i do agree it restricts some overall flow due the restriction but its more 'directed' flow, if you follow.

very good point Will, I didn't even think about that. My snails are always all over my PH also.

that sucks bje, I was just going to ask if anyone ever had a snail break one. Hmmm, rethinking taking them off now. That's why I love 3reef, always get the full spectrum of advice/input so I know what can and will go wrong sometimes.

snapped off one of the blue fins on the impeller. since i put the restrictors back on the snails just eat the algae off of the powerheads and leave it at that.

if you feel it restricts too much flow you could always cut out a few of the pieces of the guard. just enough to not allow the snails in but more water out?
