My Koralia 750 runs in reverse often now that I have it connected to a wavemaker (RKL). I've heard this is an issue with them--is there a better powerhead (different company) that won't run in reverse with my reef keeper lite? Thanks.

I don't have my pumps set to a wave maker but I do have them on toggles so I can turn them off when I feed. They will run in reverse sometimes when I turn them back on, and it is so frustrating...

I wonder if the new Hydor wave maker will eliminate this:-/

I had this problem on my EVO 1400. Inspect the front of it & see if the rubber bumper that the prop hit is still there. Mine broke off & cause one of mine to do this. I called Hydor & they sent me 2 new front assy shipped free of charge. Great customer care. It is a known issue. I have pics of the problem I can post later on.

I agree, the front shields are probably cracked and the rubber bump stop is missing, they will not run in reverse if these are present.
Contact Hydor customer service with your particulars and they will send new covers with bumpers.

I had mine replaced under warranty and my Evo 1400's have switched on and off well over 1 million times since last March 2010 at 30 second intervals. Thats 2880 switches a day for 17 months. Someting like 1,468,800 switches if my math is close! Pretty impressive for a relatively inexpensive powerhead if I may say so. Between those and the Reefkeeper Lite I have gotten my moneys worth and then some.

the economic solution would be a aquaclear powerhead with a hydor flo add on

Hydor flos cut the flow a lot since it must drive the parts that turn the deflector, plus they are bulky and need constant cleaning.

I agree, I don't have to do squat to my EVOs. They are loaded with coralline algae and they just keep on working. The props are still clean. I have mine switching off and on every 20 sec from 4pm to 2am, then they sleep when my lighting is off to create a calm affect when my tank sleeps.

Mine runs in reverse and it is hooked up to a contoller as well and its "made" for the hydors imo they have to stay clean as can be and try flipping the plug in the outlet

It is impossible for the Evo to run backwards if the rubber bumper is in place and the bushing has not slipped out. The bumper hits the propeller and it will not spin backwards due to the design. If your is running backwards its either the front cover/rubber bumper is broken or the bushing on the shaft has slipped, Hydor will warranty both.

Oh boy. Flipping the prongs of the plug will not cause your pump to run in reverse. This is only possible with DC "direct current" or AC being a 3-phase motor that is running 220v. Again being hardwired.

Trust us, something is wrong with your front basket on your pump. Rubber bumper is missing or basket is broken.
