I have my Koralia 550's on a wavemaker. They seemed to be functioning fine. Then I woke up to one of the head covers broken. Flash forward a week, and the other one had the same thing happen.

Any idea what would cause this?!

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
May be a snail getting thrown around inside. I hear mine grind every once in a great while, it's always a snail.

Just weird they both went in the same week!

    Pumps still work luckily.

I'm guessing your covers are flexing for some reason. PH turns on and hits the reverse stops and shatters them out of the housing. The first couple hits are probably just breaking single lattices making the flex worse until it can take the entire thing with it. My guess anyway. Out of curiosity how big is the tank their in and are the powerheads running alternately?

28 gallons. Running alternately with random intervals (20 sec to a min), and random intervals of running together.

I had the same exact thing happen to 2 of my 750's.
I was running them on wavemaker, too.

I don't know what caused it, but I emailed Hydor and they sent free replacements.

29 is small enough for them to be reaching each other pretty easily. Are they pointing at one another? My thought is that they may be flexing inward under pressure from the opposing powerhead.

The only real consequence of losing those rubber stops is your pumps now can run backwards sometimes. As mentioned before Hydor will replace these freely apparently.

They're pointed toward the center, but angled toward each other. So that could be the cause.

    Thanks!
