on my freshwater tanks i used to use maxi jets, and they were awesome, worked forever.

i was going to get koralias this time, but they look like they may be alot bigger than maxi-jets...

    anyone had experience with both?

on the maxi jets u could change which way u hung them, from they way they look on the box, to changing some parts and they hung just like the koralias hang, (and i hated the way the looked when they were hung this way)

Maxijets are an old style pump that has a concentrated jet or pencil stream type flow of 300 GPH or less in normal mode and up to 1300 GPH in fan mode but draw about 20 watts and have suction cup mounts. They are also quite large with the bracket and everything.

A comparable Hydor Koralia Evolutions pumps up to 1500 GPH at only 7 watts, has nice magnet mounts and has much more adjustability. It is also controller safe meaning it is designed for constant starts and stops which the MJ is not. They have them as small as 240 GPH too which is quite small physically for smaller tanks.

Even better to day are the Jebao WP series powerheads. They are smaller, produce much more flow at low power consumption and best of all come with their own DC controller which has loads of adjustability and modes and costs about the same as the others which do not come with timers or controllers and are AC powered so can only start and stop but not vary the speed like the Jebao can.

ok, so i found them, but they don't show a gph rating.... is that what the 1300L means? do i just have to convert it?

wow! that looks like an amazing product! i kinda want to order it like RIGHT NOW! hahaha.

i think i'll go with the WP-25, since i only have a 55gal, and it's adjustable from 800gph - 2000 gph in a tank that already will have 300 gph from a HOB, and a canister with 383 pgh.
giving me a total of 1483 on the low end and up to 2683 on the high end.

anyone else wanna weigh in please!!!???? :)

I use one in my 40b mixed reef and it works really well. The flow from the wp25 does vary from 800-2000gph but the controller regulates this .You have a choice of several different settings on the controller.I was actually going to suggest this pump when answering your other thread but was thinking you were looking for info on koralias.

I have two WP-25's in a 5 foot long 100G mixed reef and they are amazing. i originally ordered a WP-40 but it was way too much. I will soon have a WP-10 for my 16G bowfront.

Maxijets are great pumps for certain purposes, but I would go with a Koralia for in tank power head use. Not only do they put out more flow, but their flow pattern is also much better.

I love maxijets, I still have the ones i bought from 2001+ and have had several korilia break down. I'm not convinced the wp series is quality and will last, which is why I sold mine.
