I have 2 spare Koralia 1 powerheads lying around and i was wondering if i absolutely need them. The return pump is 400 gph and as you can tell, i wanted this tank to be a special tank. No equiptment showing. If i have to, i will put a koralia in there but id rather not. BTW im talking for the sake of keeping corals alive.

    Thanks,
    Ryan

I would at least keep one of them in there just because otherwise you have an 18x turnover rate. Also by adding one of the koralias you minimize deadspots, which you want to prevent in smaller volume systems. I would also ask Dr. Fragnetsian, or better yet look on his t5 thread, to see if you could keep some SPS further up. If you decide that you can and want to though I would add that other koralia.

With SPS, I have seen tanks with over 100x circulation. Not recommended for softies and LPS. For the latter, I would aim for about 50x. For your tank, about 1100GPH total give or take.

so according to Pharmrjohn, this would be ok:
    2 Koralia 1 powerheads: 800 GPH
    Return pump:400

Adds up to exactly 1200 :D

+ 1 on adding more water movement, whilst its fair to say SPS are the most demanding in terms of flow (anything with lots of branches can collect rubbish if the flow is not strong enough) but lots of softies also like a decent bit of flow, to help with skin shedding etc
leathers/ toadstool leathers - Zoanthids I have also found open better when there is a decent flow around / over them.

in addition you could have some Algae/ cyno issues due to lack of water movement in lower parts of the tank

if your going to put 1 in, might as well add both. K1's are pretty small and it might be a better balance for the aesthetics and flow if you had 1 on either side.
