I broke down and bought a couple of korilla 3 for my tank however when they start up they move the impeller forward and chatter for about 1 second then run fine. They are on a 30 sec. timer so it is annoying. Is this normal both of them do this?

mine do it too.. perfectly normal. Sounds like its slipping but is normal. Take for example ur in a car with a lot of power.. You release all the power at once and you will spin the tires. Same way with power head. You plug it in, all power released at once and propeller is at a dead still and has to catch up. - Just my opinion

They don't run well on wave-maker style timers. It's best to leave them on 24/7 pointed in the most useful direction for your tank. That's just my opinion, but it's your tank so you do what you think is best.

well the impeller moves forward and hits the cage. What a bad design. That just seems weird. Maybe a rubber washer to keep it from moving forward?

They work great if you use them as intended, and not cycling on and off every 30 seconds.

The 12 volt version of the koralia's is made for doing wavemaker actions, not the full size ones. I have a 3 and it chatters on start up but mine is normally on 24/7. I don't have any experience with the 12v versions but that might be an option for you.

I was going to say this. Koralia makes special power heads designed to work with their wavemaker. I believe it has a sort of soft start up to prevent this type of thing from happening. Regular korlias are not designed to be turned on and off frequently. You will just wear them out real quick.

Yep. You are going to need to take them off the wave maker or you will eventually break the shafts. A rubber washer may cut down on the noise, but it won't do anything for the life of the shaft.
