I will only use RO/DI water in my tanks. I had terrible luck with my tap water and I wouldn't personally ever risk it again. ;D

I won't use tap water... ebay has RO/DI kits pretty cheap or buy RO/DI. For me RO water runs about $0.50 a gallon and it's well worth it IMO.

Thanks for your opinions, now I want some more haha. Sorry thread has been slow my workshop I use wants a break well deserved (my grandpa and I just built a desk and fixed my car(think he had enough quality time for a couple weeks haha)). So, the stand will start be started in two weeks or so. Hopefully a little less getting antsy. I've been trying to get a 40b to make my sump out of to no avail. A new one runs just under a $100 and with other materials i figure around 150 total. So, I believe I can get an acrylic built for roughly the same from a guy close by so I will go that route. So my question to you guys is what do you feel is the best design. My thoughts are skimmer area on left, baffle separating, larger return in the middle, and a fuge on the other end.
Do i need area for bioballs filter sock. Or can i just drain water into skimmer section and slow amount t'd off into the fuge. Is this sufficient filtration?

Fuge placement in the sump is purely personal taste IMO. That being said I prefer the fuge in the center because I like to display mine. The way I set mine up previously (I don't run a skimmer now) was to place the skimmer on one end, then it went over a baffle into the fuge and then bubble trap into return area. I highly recommend a sock (200 micron), it really helps with water clarity and keep it clean. Having the larger return area is ideal, so if you need the fuge on the end to do this then so be it. You can also "T" off if you want...again, purely personal preference IMO. Sorry if I'm not helping here LOL

I appreciate any opinions, my fuge isn't going to be big. The big part of sump will be return. I like the center for it that way im not pushing a large current through the fuge defeats the purpose of it IMO. Didn't have a sump on my last tank so open to any experience and opinions. Been 6 or 7 years since I had a tank so a little rusty.
