We just got done getting everything set up, for the most part. Got the tank, sand, rock, fuge, skimmer, 2 circ pumps, return pump, and three 4ft 2xt5 ( I think ) light fixtures for $300, which i thought was a steal. Picked up another small pump, two heaters and all the other little necessary bits from the lfs.

We are still waiting for a new plumbing kit to connect our overflow to the fuge. Right now they are seperate and have pumps circulating water in each.

Though I ended up mixing the saltwater too strong and we are sitting at 1.029 salinity right now. Is this a huge problem, or can it stay like this until we do our first water change in a week? There is nothing live in it now, and I feel bad wasting all that salt. Ironically, I thought I was actually mixing it quite light, and was intending on having to add more when it was all said and done.

    Here is the first pic!

Looking forward to getting this thing up and runnng! And questions or tips are welcome!

nice looking start and 1.029 is high but i wouldnt worry about it for now since you are just starting your cycle.

Good start, waiting to adjust your SG if fine until you put animals in. No need for lights until you cycle is finished also. You should not need more than 2 of the fixtures for lighting. Even if you decide to keep SPS and clams if you use top of the line bulbs which is highly recommended.

OOhh exciting! No you can adjust the salinity easy since there is no animals in it. Besides, you're gonna add more water when you set the sump up and running, right? So add less salt when you do.

(BTW, I liked my EG Civic a lot)

    Thanks everyone!

The cat is a goofball, he is by far the best cat I've ever owned!

The tank will be a fowlr for a while, then probably slowly add some softies, lps' and eventually some clams. Stocking is still up in the air, we know we want a pair of clowns (leaning toward black ones), and a flame angel. I really Really want a toby puffer, but idk if I am willing to give up a cuc to accomodate him. Also tossing around a pistol shrimp/goby pair.

    I like eg's a lot, I've driving a turbo em1 for the past 6 years or so.
