    Thank you.

Purchased a media reactor and some GFO that should be here today. Any tips on making sure I don't clean the water too much for the euphyllias and zoas but still elliminate the darn cyano? Thank you.

maybe start with a smaller amount than the recommended dosage and see how it affects the water. I'll let others chime in since I've not used GFO before. what type did you buy?

Thanks for the help. I got BRS's GFO. I read that most people use that and I really like BRS.

I have the reactor all hooked up and running for a couple days now. I did a big water change and I will be doing another today. Hopefully I will start to see some of the cyano die. I haven't noticed any new cyano growth so that is a possitive. I did the math in my head incorrectly and ended up putting the recomended amount instead of half the recomended amount in the reactor. I figured I will still be ok if I continued to watch the PO4 levels and pay close attention to the corals? Here's a couple pics of the ractor. I marked the top of the reactor with a purple paint pin in order to be able to set the reactor without having to take it all the way out of the tank. It is very difficult to look at the media from the top of the tank.

Still battling the cyano. I have been religiously hitting the rocks with the turkey blaster. I found a new hole in the rock that I haven't been blasting. When I blasted that hole a bunch of gunk came flying out and I mean a bunch. It clouded the entire tank. I believe I have been over feeding the tank for about 2-3 months and all this build up is evidence to that. I believe I finally have the reactor tuned and will be ready to make a new mark on it in a couple days if the media keeps tumbling the same. Hopefully I will beat the evil cyano. My game plan thus far has been....added GFO reactor, turkey blasting like I'm a Thanksgiving Space Ranger, water changes, reduced reef energy feedings to 2 times per week, reduced fish feedings to every other day, raised light 2 inches, reduced photo period to 11.5 hours.

Current FTS and a shot of the favia I am trying to bring back to life. It looks like it is still recovering. The coral has put on some brown, green, and pink coloration. It has also put on a little more meat and is extending small feeder tenticles out of almost every polyp now. I am super excited to see how this coral turns out if it makes a full recovery.

love your tank! I know it's driving you nuts but the cyano doesn't look too bad in the pictures :) It sounds like you have an awesome game plan in terms of getting rid of it!! some positive karma your way!

Thank you! I was getting really discouraged but I think I am making progress. I tested the phosphates last night and I got a .02 :) Today a water change is scheduled as well. The gunk coming out of the rocks during blasting sessions apears to be getting a lot smaller too. I have a bunch of brown algae growing on the back wall still and I think I will scrub 1/4 of it off before this water change and continue scrubing 1/4 every few days to keep phosphates from spiking again. I also added a jeabo wp-10 to increase flow in the tank. I really like this pump, expecially for $66. I have it set to a low wave right now. I would have liked a bigger wave but it made the overflows splash pretty good and I figured salt creep would be a nightmare.
